DO NOT USE in freshwater aquariums

The product description on the website states that this mat is safe for both freshwater and saltwater aquariums; However, upon arrival I saw a sticker on the packaging warning that it would raise pH in freshwater aquariums and suggested introducing it slowly? Get in slowly? But how does it work? I took a small bowl, filled it with aquarium water and checked the pH. I then cut off a small piece of the filter pad, rinsed it under tap water for a while (as suggested) and then placed it in the bowl. I left it on for 2 hours and then checked the pH. The pH was off the charts so I let it soak for another 24 hours and there was almost no noticeable drop in pH. Regular aquarium maintenance is required and I don't want to constantly test and retest this filter to determine if it is safe for my aquarium. Had this pH issue been listed in the product description on the website I would never have purchased this pad. If you care about your fish, do not buy this product.
