This is a decent very reasonably priced basic fiber optic tester and locator. First, no one will ever confuse it with high quality. Tool. It's not great. However, it is cheap for what you get and my review takes into account that it is a very low price. Mine came with instructions in English although only the basics are discussed. You still need at least some prior knowledge of fiber optics and fiber optic test equipment. Its very low cost. The light source is easily bright enough for short distances of a few kilometers or less. More than adequate as a tracking device. You can get some useful measurements from this tool if you have reasonable expectations and are just trying to rule out obvious issues. I would happily pay a few bucks more if there were more adapter tips for a variety of popular fiber optic connectors. I carry at least one patch cord with every combination I come across in the field, so it doesn't really matter to me. However, it would be a good idea not to use more conversion cables than necessary. The screen viewing angle is poor, especially when the top of the instrument is tilted away from you. Almost this thing is badly returned. The buttons are "sticky" in the sense that they can sometimes take a second or more to return to their normal position after being pressed. A bit annoying and might also be a reason to bring it back. Basically, the appearance of it is not quality. It works, but doesn't look like it will last long. Luckily I don't have to use this often, and even then it's not for serious testing. If you're looking for a serious fiber optic tester, this isn't it. If you only need to check the fiber optic for obvious problems, identification, etc. on rare occasions, this might work for you.
