I already had the holder but it's nice to have 2. I think it serves a dual purpose of protecting it in the box. Most of my knives were sharpened before Christmas, but I had to find something. So I found the most horrible knife in my drawer that I don't even know why I still haven't thrown it out. He was dumb as a butter knife. I used an old stone that I should have started with as it was in very poor condition, 250-1000 grit and then I progressed to this BearMoo stone. I like the quality of the stone compared to other stones I've used in the past that tend to break when sharpened. Of course there is some wear and tear from using this stone, but not that much and I like it. I think it will take much longer. However, after working with the 3000 grit I tried the knife out on paper and it turned out to be just as good as my other knives. I went ahead and finished the page with the 8000 grit and overall I'm really happy to add this stone to my sharpening kit. As you can see from my second photo, this knife is pretty much junk, the tip kind of broke off. Honestly, with a knife this sharp, I don't need the point because I'm cutting, not stabbing.
