Review on Merino Wool Men'S Thermal Underwear Base Layer Set - Naturwool John Top And Bottom by Andre Hawkins

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Warm, stretchy, and good breathability

Having owning various weight of base layer all made from polyester to polyester/fleece blend, it is always hard to decide the trade-off between warmth, performance, and breathability. Finally decided to go with 100% merino wool and no more compromise. These are listed as 260g and indeed it is thick. The top is as warm as my Duofold mid-weight fleet lined shirt yet three times stretchier, most importantly, much more breathable. It makes a world of difference in the three layers system. I was able to regulate the temperature with ease between active and resting during outdoor activities in the temperature range between low 30s and 40s. Here is the measurement for the size small:TopChest: 19 inSleeve: 26 inWaist: 17 inLength: 26 inBottomWaist: 11 in (Elastic)Inseam: 30.5 inI would say the fit is regular since it does have some room around the waist and arms. The bottom, however, is very tight with the elastic band - measured only at 11 inches. It does stretch a bit but if waist room is important, it would be better to order one size up, albeit a looser top.

Pros
  • I really liked the comfort in a wide range of temperatures. It gives confidence when exploring outdoors.
Cons
  • A large hole formed in the pants after wearing them twice.
