This mask is insidious. I read reviews about CO2 accumulation before buying this mask. I figured since only a minority of the reviewers complained this was probably an overt reaction. I tried on the mask and felt slightly suffocated. However, after using the mask while snorkeling, it was pretty hard to tell that I was getting too much CO2 buildup. I ignored it, thinking I just need time to get used to the mask. However, after about 10 minutes of swimming, my breathing became more restless and I felt like I was suffocating. I took off my mask but still felt suffocated and tired from swimming. Thank god I swam near shallow water. If I had swum deeper, I would probably have drowned. Never again will I use a snorkel that covers my face. away while snorkeling and diving in the waters of Maui. It is important to note that in Hawaii the majority of fatalities are caused by inexperienced divers* and many factors such as age and physical ability must be considered. However, at least two of the eight divers (the ninth person was a recreational diver) died while wearing full-face snorkel masks; percent of us residents find this disturbing.
