Review on Woodwise 14 Lb Powered Wood Filler by Josh Jeffries

Product Excellent but terrible direction

I used this product to infill my wooden floor when I was renovating it and it worked great! The only reason I attached the star was the horrible directions and the negligible amount of color that didn't mix (I'll explain below). I ended up having an 80 grit drum sander/edger, then used this product, then an 80 grit square buff (lots of dust from this product), sanded 100 and finally 120 and the floors were spotless. The mixing instructions for the product were terrible (3/4 bag (lbs only, volume not listed) per 1/2 gallon of water). I mixed the product in a bucket using a paint mixing tool attached to a drill. The consistency of the melted ice cream was perfect. If it's too thick, it's VERY difficult to spread and you'll end up applying more than you want. Just slowly add water until you get this consistency. Be sure to mix well. MY Mix Directions: Spot Pouring - Add water until you get the consistency of regular peanut butter or putty. Bottom Jointing - Slowly add water, mix in a bucket and use a paint mixer (too difficult to stir this volume) until you have the consistency of melted ice cream. Unfortunately I didn't measure how much water I added to get a mix of parts water and powder, I'll update if I ever do. Another problem I had was that there were small balls of red paint (for red oak) that smeared when grouting. At first I thought I had a cut finger and there were drops of blood, but it wasn't. I was pretty thorough with the mixing so it's not my fault. However, they did not paint the wood and when the floor was sanded down they all disappeared. Overall this is a great product and has really made my floors look brand new despite being almost a hundred years old.
