The first thing that will strike you about this block is the beautiful finish and craftsmanship. This finish is perfect front and back, and each unit matches the other perfectly with no flaws. (I don't know how they do it.) The next thing that catches your eye is the size. 20 x 20 inches doesn't seem like much until you put it on a counter or island. Then you realize how massive this thing really is. You could probably work with several different products at once without mixing them. This can significantly reduce cooking time as you don't have to clean the appliance every time before changing the type of food. Once you've taken it out of the tight-fitting box and shrink-wrap, the next thing you'll notice is just how attractive this device actually is. . This unit is actually a secondary piece of furniture and will complete the look of your kitchen like a showpiece. I hope you have a place in the kitchen where you can keep it out and not hide it. This is the block you would expect to find in a "rich man" kitchen. Crafted by American hands from American hardwoods, I am proud that Americans are still making beautiful pieces like this. I will hold it against every other block in this price range. Speaking of holding, you probably won't because it's very heavy (30 pounds). You don't throw something like that on its side in a corner cupboard. You'll probably want to find a semi-permanent place to store this. (Again, we hope it gets displayed in your kitchen.) Finger grooves on the side make handling much easier. It also makes it very easy to flip to the other side of the block, which you can use as well. (TWO BLOCKS IN ONE!) For most people, myself included, that's a lot of money to spend on a cutting board. Again, this is less of a plank and more of an armored block carved from the forests of the American Northeast. You want to protect your investment. I purchased Boos mineral oil and beeswax cream available on this site. I've heard great advice on this site, not just about the products themselves, but how to use them. I am gifting this to my wife so have not used these wood spice products yet. I am convinced that these products will make this board even more beautiful as they give the wood a rich shine. If you can afford a slightly more expensive cutting board, buy this one. I am happy and proud of what I have done.
