Revainrating 5 out of 5

Affordable quality IPS monitor suitable for most tasks!

BenQ is a new brand for me, I've never heard of them. But I saw the reviews and most people loved it so I decided to give it a try since the price was good. I bought this monitor to use with my tablet, I use it to monitor my security camera, surf the web, watch videos and play small games. I have a 55" 4K TV for my main computer, so all I really needed was a tablet monitor. PACKAGING: The packaging it comes in is definitely not impressive. the fact that you didn't buy a high end monitor but they packed the monitor very well in the box it came in, foamed on both sides and everything that comes with it is neatly stowed in the foam too . WHAT'S IN THE BOX: The box includes the monitor itself, a power cord and a short HDMI cable, along with a quick start guide, warranty card, driver CD and full product manual in PDF format. BenQ monitors come with a 3-year warranty, which is pretty good! Oddly enough, they've changed their policy and you no longer need to register your product with them to validate your warranty. Purchase receipt as proof of ownership if you ever need to make a warranty claim. ppers, this is your account page, take a screenshot. SETUP: Setting up this monitor is very simple, place the monitor face down on the protective foam pouch. Take both parts that make up the stand, put them together, screw in the built-in nut, and then slide the stand into the monitor until it snaps into place. The great thing about this stand is that it has space for cable management for a tidy setup. Route the power cord and data cable through the holders on the stand, and then plug them in. Then put the back cover back on the stand, it should only work one way. CONNECTIONS: This monitor uses a standard 3-pin computer cable connector for power. This monitor has the old standard VGA connector, the previous standard HDMI connector and the latest standard display connector. It also has a speaker port and a microphone port. I connected it to my tablet via HDMI at 1080p, 60Hz. SPEAKERS: Some people may not know that this monitor is unique and actually comes with speakers. However, the built-in speakers are pretty terrible, but that's to be expected given the size of the monitor. The speakers are most likely to be no larger than 2 inches in diameter, which is why the audio is so weak in volume. The sound quality is miserable, the speakers produce neither high-quality bass nor high-quality treble. The speakers practically only reproduce the middle frequencies. Recommendation: Use a pair of Edifier R1700BT bookshelf speakers or a pair of headphones. SCREEN: The screen is made with IPS (In Plane Switching) technology with a corner-to-corner diagonal of 23.8 inches. Unlike TN (Twisted Nematic) panels, which suffer from poor blacks and significant color distortion when viewed from an angle, IPS panels retain high-quality, deep, rich colors with high-quality blacks and virtually no viewing angles. The only downside of an IPS display is that, like this screen, it has a faster 8ms response time and a refresh rate of just 60Hz, making it unsuitable for gaming. GAMES: In addition to the previous paragraph, this monitor is not intended for competitive gaming. A true gaming monitor should have a response time of 3ms or less and a refresh rate of 144Hz or higher. The 8ms supported by this monitor may cause ghosting. And since it only runs at 60 hertz, the in-game action can happen faster than you can see, meaning you're more likely to get a frag than you are in an online game. What if you don't compete and just play single player games like Dead Effect or simple games like Plants Vs Zombies, this monitor is really good for gaming. QUALITY: The quality this monitor delivers is pretty good for the price. While it might not be the best monitor for gaming, it produces rich colors that look really good. This monitor seems to favor warmer tones over colors, even when I set the display to a cooler blue it's still warmer than many other screens I've used. If you're looking for a monitor that delivers 100% accurate color, this may not be the monitor for you. If you're ready to embrace warmer tones, then this is for you. The black quality is probably some of the best I've seen on computer monitors. Very little light penetrates at the edges, it is almost impossible. generally noticeable. With a TN panel you would see gray instead of black and light would leak out everywhere. I don't see any dead pixels and the screen is very smooth with a matte finish that helps reduce glare. The monitor also uses a thin bezel design, which I like. MENU: This monitor uses a simple menu system with 4 different navigation buttons. It's not the easiest or most logical menu setup I've ever used, but it works. What's cool, though, is that the monitor shows the actions of each button on the screen, so you don't have to look under the monitor with a flashlight to see the icon. (The icons only appear in the on-screen menu). I disabled all dynamic options, both brightness and contrast, I don't need my monitor to make the selection for me. I set the brightness to 50% and the contrast to 70%. EYECARE: This monitor features the patented EyeCare technology. The company makes it so trendy in marketing. The thing is that under the monitor there is a photocell that perceives light. When there is little light in the room, the screen is dimmed. When the screen brightness is bright in the room. In fact, this EyeCare technology is best for those who spend all day in the office in front of a screen and don't want to get a headache. You can enable/disable this function in the menu. BEST SUIT FOR?: In my opinion, this monitor is best suited for people who do office work, production work, programming, security camera feeds, web surfing, Youtube browsing, and lighting. games. Besides, it would also be a great streaming monitor. WHO IS NOT INTENDED FOR?: This monitor is not for the avid gamer. Due to the naturally warmer tones, this may not be the most accurate monitor for photo or video editing. But if that doesn't bother you, I'll still say that it's a good monitor for production work. WHAT DO I LOVE? I would have liked a more logical menu structure. I would have preferred to have separate volume up and volume down buttons rather than having to pull up a menu to change the volume. It would be nice if the monitor had a Tosslink connector for audio input, most modern computers have a Tosslink audio output. I would also prefer better speakers, if you're putting speakers in the monitor, do it right. And if you had a Tosslink connection you would have a high resolution sample rate and frequency response that could reproduce really high quality sound. CONCLUSION: This monitor works great for me. I'm really surprised at how good the screen quality is for the price. You used to have to spend $400 or more to get an IPS monitor of this size, I'm very impressed with the purpose I'm using it for. While it's not the best monitor, it's pretty good for the price. Considering how I use this monitor I would give it 5 stars out of 5. PS: The monitor image showing rainbow colors means I'm running the tablet in Daydream COLORS mode, which is like a splash screen. And the other picture that shows me playing the game on my tablet is the Dead Effect game.
