Tests your battery without a heavy load

Most battery testers I've seen use a large resistive load to get a lot of current out of the battery to test it. . I believe this is a tried and true method, but it also has a downside - it drains the battery a bit. In addition, such a large load causes some wear on the battery electrodes. This battery tester uses a different test method with a low frequency load. I don't know if this is less accurate compared to using a heavy load, but it seems to give correct readings. At the end of the video I connected the battery to my oscilloscope under load to see the signal used to measure the battery. The included instructions are pretty decent. English isn't perfect, but it makes sense and is easy to read. I've definitely seen some bad guides with bad translations, but luckily that's not the case. I have attached a sample page. Various tests can be performed ranging from charging voltage monitoring, load voltage monitoring to performing a "quick test" and an "accurate test". To perform an accurate test, you will be prompted to enter a battery rating. In my case, my battery is rated at 650 CCA, so I put that in. The tester showed that the nominal capacity of the batteries dropped to almost 500 CCA. To perform a quick test, you must enter the battery capacity in Ah (ampere hour). I was also able to test an old 12v battery used in the backup system. It's a bit annoying that you have to press the up and down arrows several times when changing numbers. You can't just hold it down to make the numbers go up or down quickly. That would be a nice feature. This is currently the only battery tester I own, so I have no comparison with it. As far as I can tell there seem to be accurate readings based on the life of the batteries I have. It's nice to be able to test batteries from the comfort of your own home instead of driving to the nearest auto parts store and determining if the battery just needs to be charged or replaced.

Pros
  • Safety first
Cons
  • Not as thick as other samples
