Should I upgrade from 5 MP? As if! I spent a lot of time with the 5MP camera and wasn't sure if I should upgrade to 4K. I say it depends on the location of the camera and what you are going to use it for. A 4K camera is sensitive to light. When the sun is low on the horizon or the light is aimed at the camera, it's not as good as 5MP. At night 5mp looks better. Or if you want close-up shots of car license plates or faces, you'd better use the 5-megapixel 4x zoom. So I'm sticking with a combination of 16 5MP and 8 4K. So I would say that zoomed in 4K at 20ft or closer is sharper than blurry as 4K has a wider field of view. Also, 4K dome cameras are mostly made of plastic and feel very fragile. The newer 4K DVRs are fanless and cooler. And they're smaller, so you can't add an extra internal hard drive. I opted for external 6GB, with the included hard drive you only get 4 days.
