I am writing this review specifically for product design and installation. I haven't used the socket enough to comment on long-term performance or reliability. The first jack I received was from a third party, it arrived on time with no problems. The jack is securely clamped between two thick pieces of foam. It turned out to be in perfect condition. The instructions seemed simple, but looking back I now know that some important notes are seriously missing. I would recommend everyone to give it a quick test before going through the entire installation process only to find that it doesn't work and you have to "delete" it! Test this by connecting the black wire coming out of the jack head to the trailer's 12 volt battery positive terminal and connecting a quick ground with an automotive jumper wire from the battery negative terminal to the jack's metal bracket. If the jack works, proceed to the actual installation. In my case, I went through the entire installation only to find that the jack was not working, the LED lights, or the jack screw. I called Husky Tech Support and am pleased to report a VERY positive experience. They were easy to communicate with and were quick and knowledgeable. They first emailed me some troubleshooting tests to try. It didn't solve my problem so they just asked for my serial number and proof of purchase and quickly sent me a new one from the factory with no questions asked. Unfortunately, when the new one came, I had an additional headache. In general, installation is easy; However, the instructions do not address a very common problem faced by these jacks. If the product doesn't work, you need to make sure you really have good ground. They are intended to be earthed by star washers above the top backing plate which are intended to penetrate the surface of the powder coating and make contact with the metal below. Unfortunately, due to the thick powder coating, the washers very often do not have adequate (or no) contact with the underlying metal, preventing a ground connection from being made. The second tech support call was similar to the first experience. They responded quickly and were very helpful. A tech support rep said the usual solution is to scrape, sand, or otherwise remove the paint around the three screw holes. This was frustrating in a number of ways, mainly due to the fact that I had to intentionally damage the finish on my new jack in order for it to work. This leaves it not very pretty and also creates the potential for rust. I was also frustrated with how much effort it took on my part to get the jack to work. This should be noted in big bold in the owner's manual as the company knows this is a very common problem. In the end, the jack is installed and works perfectly. But if I had known all of this beforehand, it would have saved me hours of frustration. One last important installation note that some people might overlook. Make sure the negative cable coming from your trailer is connected to the negative side of the battery when attempting to use the jack. The jack is grounded to the trailer frame, but you must connect the trailer ground. For all these reasons, I'm starting with 3 stars and will only be willing to upgrade later if I find the product works flawlessly from now on.
