Review on Fotodiox Lens Mount Adapter Pentax by Mike Larkin

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Great for using FD lenses on cameras with an APC-S sensor (Rebel T5) but not perfect

with the Rebel T5 that was on sale. She was thrilled to see the amazing images I got with the Panasonic G7 and older Canon FD lenses with focal reducers. We got this adapter for her Rebel T5 and she paired it with an old Canon FD. Lens 50mm f1.8. We noticed a lot of blur and softness at f1.8. I thought maybe it was the lens itself, maybe a fungus or dirt. We have tested the lens carefully and it is very clean, almost perfect. The adapter is also clean. Another thing I questioned is the crop factor since there is glass in the adapter. I did a quick test. The tripod was set up 4 feet from my test stand. I mounted my own Rebel T5 with an old Canon FD 24mm f2.8 lens on it using this adapter and a Canon EF-S 24mm f2.8 lens. From the results you can see the crop factor of the vintage lens compared to the standard EF-S lens. At f2.8 the image also became blurry. In general, the adapter is good. For the price it allows you to use vintage FD lenses on a Canon Rebel camera. Moving the aperture at least one position above the minimum will sharpen your images and eliminate blur. I didn't give the adapter a perfect five stars because of these concerns while also avoiding three stars because the cost is so much lower than other glass element adapters. It's fine for using vintage lenses, but be aware of its limitations.
