Great product at a great price!

Lightning struck near our house. Even though we had a whole house surge protector, it turned off three TVs, our VOIP phone, our live TV, and our internet. This is because the surge came through COAXIAL CABLES for our DirectTV and Internet, not through power lines. The spatter goes straight down the coax cable to your modems, and then down the HDMI cables to your TV, roasting the innards. I researched that for a few days. I bought a small external surge protector for internet coax cable. Problem number 1 is solved. Now I had to protect the Direct TV Genie box, phone lines and TV. I came across this surge protector from Tripp-Lite that does all three! It offers over 3,000 joules (one burst watt per second equals one joule) of protection, far more than any other equivalent product. More than enough to protect your gear. The instructions were very clear and easy to set up. The issue was whether this would work with Direct TV, since Direct TV says you shouldn't use surge protectors on coax cables. Tripp-Lite supplies jack-to-jack coaxial cable and telephone cable. I removed the coax cable from the back of the Direct TV box and connected it to the "IN" jack on the surge protector. I used the included coax extension cable to go from the "OUT" port back to the Direct TV box. I did the same with my phone which is VOIP and connected to my internet modem. I have included Tripp-Lite. All the lights are on, GO! I picked up the phone. Same normal dial tone. Now for the BIG test. I turned on the Direct TV Genie and the TV. I was hoping I wouldn't see squiggly lines or anything else on the screen, or worse, nothing at all. I was very pleased to find that the HD TV picture is as clear and comfortable as ever. At the moment I can't tell you how Tripp-Lite surge protectors will perform in a real storm, but they guarantee your equipment if you register your product. So yes. It works with Direct TV and possibly Dish and anything else you might have. So far very satisfied.
