Fun when you know its limitations and use them for fun

The Ultramax 400 is oddly grainy and contrasty, which can be fun if you get the exposure right. Dark areas can sometimes be much darker than in real life, underexposed shadows can be jet black, overexposed highlights can be white and become overexposed very easily. Underexposed shots can have weird greens or yellows depending on colors and lighting, and some random colors can show through, which is funny. f/1.7 and I just used the built in light meter and overexposed about half a stop. I used a good photo lab for the photo of the cat and the scene with clouds and trees, which has a NICE scanner - that makes a big difference for shadows. I think the flowers and power lines in the sky were developed and scanned at Walmart - definitely less dynamic range and weaker colors. I slightly adjusted all three for hue/white balance. Note: This product is designed for 24 shots per roll. You pay the same price for development and scanning at most labs for 24 or 36 rolls. So when you buy those 24 reels, you end up paying more money per shot. A lot of. The main advantage of smaller roles is that you can switch them faster if your roles are small experiments/projects that are more interesting and limited to 24 takes instead of 36. Honestly I don't know why anyone would buy 24 rolls.
