Giving Matters

Dani, you asked for my story. here is the shortened version. My name is Glenn, I am 40 years old, father of Errol and Elliot, Husband of the Season, believe in the power of meditation, spirituality and compassion, President of the Thornton EU Foundation, recovering alcohol and drug addict. A few years ago I sought treatment for my addiction and my life has changed forever in ways I could never have imagined. At the beginning of the last week of my treatment, on June 9th, my son Errol died in an accident. He was 2 1/2 years old. To make matters worse, my own father accidentally ran Errol over. It's awful to describe what it has done to our family. About six months after Errol's death, two weeks before our first Christmas without our only son, I received a call from an organization called DKMS. The DKMS brings bone marrow donors together with blood cancer patients. They informed me that I was an anonymous match and asked if I wanted the procedure. I immediately agreed simply because of the concept that we can alleviate the suffering of another family even if we cannot help our own. I flew to Seattle and underwent a blood stem cell test for this stranger, not knowing if this person would survive or not. A year later, the DKMS called again. This time they informed me that my recipient survived and would like to contact me. Two days later, another life-changing call came. My recipient and I spoke on the phone. We shared our stories, unedited, the good, the bad, and the ugly. We became instant friends, we call each other "blood brothers". That day I learned the greatest lesson of my life; our only purpose in this life is to help each other get through this. So easy. That day I established the Errol Conrad Thornton Foundation in honor of our beautiful son Errol. We had no money, no experience in charitable activities, only good intentions. Our foundation helps children with school supplies, musical instruments, books and food. Enter the Color Swell section. We started purchasing Color Swell products to distribute to schools for a number of reasons. They are of good quality, at a fair price, but mostly because Color Swell lives up to our foundation's simple goal of helping other people. We buy as many Color Swell products as we can and will always be Color Swell customers because Color Swell decides to help children in need. The healing we have found through giving is amazing! Glenn Thornton, President of the Errol Conrad Thornton Foundation
