Review on Sceptre FreeSync E248B FPT168: Frameless DisplayPort Monitor with Built-in Speakers, Wall Mountable & Tilt Adjustment - Full HD 1920X1080P, Flicker-Free & IPS Panel by Matthew Harrison

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Cheap for one reason - DisplayPort dies after a couple of months, lots of backlighting.

If you don't mind serious backlight leaks, they'll work just fine, but don't even bother using the included DisplayPort cables as you won't be using them for very long. I bought two of these in October 2021 and one of them had a DisplayPort failure within three months. HDMI still works and I can still get refresh rates up to 144Hz, but it's not the promised 165Hz. Another one lost the DisplayPort today and since my graphics card only has an HDMI output I'll either have to switch dice a good DP to HDMI adapter or replace the monitor. One thing is for sure, I will not buy another Scepter monitor. I should have taken the hint and sent them back when I realized the silver logo on the front is just a bunch of stickers that will come off if you remove the protective film too quickly. Also, the reason for the backlight bleeding is that the top 70% of the monitor consists of a panel and a thin sheet of plastic that holds it in place without any rigidity. This means that the tilt adjustment must be made from below if you don't want to risk splitting the record! I half expect HDMI to fail in a year and force me to ditch my monitors entirely. This level of quality is unacceptable at a time when there are so many concerns about sustainability. If you really want a cheap monitor with a high refresh rate, even if it's $20 cheaper than the next option, go for something else. And if it's the only option for your budget, be prepared to use it with HDMI only and put up with a lot of backlighting.

Pros
  • Blue Light Shift: Reduce the monitor's blue light to protect your eyes from fatigue, irritation and strain. This allows you to work on documents, watch movies, or play games more comfortably for longer periods of time.
