This fireplace replaces our traditional wood-burning fireplace. It was very easy to set up. My husband didn't understand at first. He thought it looked very real. The only thing I have is that the piece of plexiglass is cut off so that when standing you can see the top edge as a light line on a dark background. Drawing a dark marker over it might help, I'm not sure yet. The heater was only on for about 10 minutes and I felt warm throughout the room (150 square feet). Definitely smells like electric heating. There is no sound. So if you want crackle, you need to add it through the speaker or device. This is a beautiful device. I'm happy with them for now. I gave 4 stars because it was much more expensive than the other models, no crackling and light plexiglass edge. Update - black marker works great.
