I bought this expecting it wouldn't work but for the price I thought it was worth a try. I'm glad I tried it because it definitely works. I bought a sofa and love seat just before adopting two kittens and realized very early on that my furniture was likely to be damaged. For the first year and a half I wore sofa covers. The remaining uncovered parts I covered with hard plastic protection with glue on the back. It protected my furniture, but it was pretty ugly. Not only that, but one or two spots that I couldn't completely cover were eventually spotted by the cats and the stitches were pulled. And every time I tried to remove the cover, after a few minutes one of them would start digging their claws into the exposed fabric. So I ordered this spray when I finally got the covers off. When it arrived I sprayed some on a paper towel and let the cats smell it. They obviously didn't like the smell, at first they got interested, and then they ran away at the sight of a towel. I was concerned that the spray would be too effective and that they wouldn't even enter the room after I sprayed the furniture! Luckily, although they didn't like the smell, they got used to it enough to stay near furniture when spraying. On the first day I noticed that they poked around on the couch a bit and then shook their paws as soon as they sniffed it. According to the instructions, I sprayed several times a day for the first week. After a few days they didn't want to scratch the sprayed areas anymore, but I noticed that a few threads were sticking out in other places. Eventually I started spraying the whole sofa and now they don't scratch at all. I'm going into my second week with almost new couches (except for a few spots where they arrived before I started using the spray). I spray once a day or every other day. I don't know what will happen if I completely refuse to use it, but the smell is pleasant - kind of herbal, kind of citrus. I swear I can smell the lemongrass. This remedy works for my cats! Saved my furniture for at least a few more years.
