Very sturdy and cooks evenly. Ok side is flat and smooth, the other each grate comes to a point. As far as I can tell there is no right or wrong way to use theses. So far I've cooked brats on the flat side and then port steaks one flat and one pointed. The only difference was the grill marks. They are more defined with the pointed side. I did season these grates before I used them. Installed on a Weber Silver Gennisis from 2005 that I just replaced the burners and flavor bars.
