Review on πŸ§— Petzl CORDEX PLUS Climbing Gloves: Supreme Comfort and Protection for Climbers by Mark Jefferson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Quality rope work gloves

The training I have been doing over the past few months has included knot tying, rappelling, belaying and other skills. The demands on the gloves we use are correspondingly high - hard-wearing, non-slip and well lined. Some of my teammates sacrificed durability and opted for cheaper but well-padded work gloves, thinking they would be easier to replace. I chose a more expensive goatskin work glove with a reinforced palm because I believe in their durability. These gloves were really nimble, but I really felt the friction of the rope on the descents, and I burned two of my fingers through a canyoning trip in just one day. Take the Petzl K53 Cordex Plus Midweight Gloves. I preferred them to the light Petzl because the skin on the fingers is double. You're surprisingly nimble considering how much skin you've got on your fingers. I've actually found that I can tie knots faster with them because the skin is less likely to snag. So far the skin has held up well. not even the slightest wear and tear after a day of descent. All seams remain sealed and intact, and the seams show no signs of wear. I will keep updating the review once I can beat these gloves. The palm is heavily padded to the point where it's a little hard to tell if you're really holding the rope. The padding is really effective as I did a couple of fast descents and there wasn't even the slightest bit of discomfort. The lack of feeling in my palms bothers me a lot when I'm tired, cold and my hands go numb, especially when descending a thinner rope. But I think as long as you keep the right braking position, the grip doesn't have to be the strongest. when your hands are wet It would be nice if there was a little elastic at the wrist so you can open the glove wider and put your hand inside.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Not the best
