Review on Viviva 100 Cotton Sketchbook A6 by Barbara Simmons

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very excited about this!

I'm so glad these wonderful little albums exist! They are 100% cotton 140lb. / 300 g / m2 paper as specified here. They have very pronounced teeth. The paper is not bright white, but creamy white. It's not easy to find 100% cotton sketchbooks and I've never seen a 100% cotton hardcover in this size. I am an intermediate level self-taught watercolourist. I like using 100% cotton paper because I'm used to it, but it's not easy to find in albums of any size, let alone this small pocket size. Anyone who also loves a pronounced tooth on watercolor paper will love these sketchbooks. I usually use Bee Cold Paper or Paul Rubens Hot Paper. Sure, the hot press is smooth, but the bee has a tooth. If you're familiar with cold-pressed bees, you can tell what the paper in these sketchbooks is like when I say they have between half a tooth and two teeth of bee paper. the first picture and paper were creased, but to my surprise, after drying, it straightened up and is now lying flat like the other pages. That's a nice plus. I'm used to paper that retains a wavy appearance even after drying. Absolutely no color bleeding. It was a bit difficult to get used to the fact that the paper is off-white and I've never used that shade before. However, it's not bad. Just something I'm not used to. Only recently did I learn that there are different shades of white watercolor paper. The paper lies flat when the book is open. You'll have to fold it if that makes sense, but doing so will leave both of your sides open. Using clips on pages makes this easier. Haven't done any research on the book yet but will come back to update photos when I do. I quickly left a review because these are such great little sketchbooks. I initially ordered 5 of these thinking how I could go wrong with 100% cotton paper. I order more of these because I don't want them to just disappear and be unavailable for some reason if I didn't have them. I don't hoard them though ---- I'm leaving a lot on the list for others to try. The information on the cover states that they are made by the same company that makes the Viviva Color Sheets, for those familiar with them. I don't, but I'll do a little research to find out what it is.
