Review on Hario Plastic Coffee Dripper Clear by Whitney Jones

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Wonderfully cheap, wonderfully good coffee. Experiment more often!

I switched from Chemex to the Hario V60 after many baristas recommended it as the 'leader' in pourover. Don't let the modest 3-minute brewing time stop you - Hario makes surprisingly loud-tasting cups. Especially African varieties (Ethiopian, Kenyan, Burundian) are characterized by their smooth, syrupy, light body and the flavor notes are very clear even if you are new to craft coffee. Also, even as a beginner, I sometimes get these amazing flavors out of my coffee. What you need to know about the Hario ecosystem: Unlike the Chemex and Kalita Wave, the Hario V60 ecosystem is much more sensitive to user input. TL;DR: This requires additional processing and setup variables. That's also why I love it! Write down all your variables, note the brewing time (preferably 2:50-3 minutes and definitely no more than 3:30 otherwise it literally kills notes) and note the flavors you smell. Repeat, repeat, repeat. First, try 340 grams of water (12 ounces) and 22 grams of coffee beans. Boil twice as much water as you need and use the first half to pre-rinse the filter/installation. a lot of. Hario filter. Also, unlike Chemex and Kalita Wave, they are not all the same. I'm crazy about different brewing times of 100 pieces with tablets and 40 pieces without tabs. Get the latest. Don't be fooled by the fact that the former is cheaper. For those $18-24 coffee beans you bought at the fancy coffee shop, buy only 40-pack filters.
