Great addition to obihai200!

Although it's expensive (approx. We have a wired phone jack and router in the living room. The room is next to the outlet for the obi boxes but the only phone in our house is in the kitchen, it's a cordless phone plugged into another outlet. Once set up properly, it's great! BUT. When I set up the obihai200 box myself for the first time, I was able to get the dongle with a few tries couldn't get it to work but the ethernet hardwiring worked.I had to contact support by phone. It turns out you need to use a computer, not an app on your mobile phone or a browser on your smart tv like I did Once the wired ethernet is working properly with the Obi, you need to leave it connected to the box and the Obihai box for about 10 seconds turn it off and then turn it back on so it can find and connect to the key. Once you think it's connected (according to your blinking lights on the Obi box), you can unplug the cable and make a test call on the offline dongle. The support team was great, walking me through and helping me program the key. I was disappointed and started to believe it was a piece of junk, a DOA product that I had to return. Patience is the key. It was difficult to find Polycom's customer support number on their website. so many that I can't even remember how I found it. But we are ready and working! Free Google Voice home phone service. The initial cost was $84 including delivery of obihai200 and obi wifi dongle and will pay for itself in just 3 months. Our phone company just installed fiber optic cable and removed the old copper wiring that works in the event of a power outage. They still charge $32 including taxes and fees and charge us for VoIP services on top of $65 for internet. There are backup power devices that they plug into a wired router that they claim only powers my fiber optic phone line and not my internet. The only downside is that with them I had e911 services for just $1 a month. The completely FREE Google Voice home phone does not have this service. In my particular area, my home phone number, which I've had since 2006, had to be changed to a number suggested by Google. It simply appears as Charleston SC in caller ID. There were no numbers for or near Pageland SC because my particular phone company doesn't allow you to transfer the number to a cell phone to keep it. (To use it as a Google Home VoIP phone number, it needs to be ported as a work mobile number before installing obi talk, as shown on YouTube). My mobile number. nope! No thank you. After I finished setting up the bypass key and my phone was working, I called and turned off my landline. It was 4 days ago. I love it.

Pros
  • Stable test results
Cons
  • Could have gone for a newer model
