They get 5 stars right away because they are easy to install, filter the light well and are decent quality at an affordable price. They can be installed both inside the window and outside. They rise and fall gently, albeit with little noise. I love the soft filtered light in our home. We bought 5 of these, some gray and some beige. Beiges provide a soft, almost yellow light that's so relaxing and Sunday afternoon, while grays deliver a cooler gray. Just enough to filter out the glare, the filtered out atmosphere of sunlight makes the home much more relaxed, not dark, just softer. You can't look inside the house through them during the day, but you can at night, which is not surprising. If you have windows that face the rising or setting sun directly, that's not really enough. These are not blinds and these special shades do not provide privacy or blackout. I think they will do well in windows with slanting light. We have left mini blinds underneath in our windows because they face the rising or setting sun, we are in Florida where it is always sunny. i love her so much I plan to buy more.
