Review on 🐶 In-Ground Dog Fence Kit by PetSafe by Erin Lee

Revainrating 5 out of 5

One of the best investments I've ever made!

I have a 1 year old King Charles/Bichon mix that weighs about 20 pounds. He was usually pretty good, but as soon as he saw my neighbors on the street or their dog, he'd run across the street angrily. Yelling at him to stop was a waste of time as he was determined to visit our friends. I knew it would eventually get hit by a car, so I decided to invest in an in-ground fence. I can't express enough how happy I am with this product! Installation took a full 8 hour work day and was well worth the effort. Although the instructions are very simple, I will describe how I installed the system. If you're good at it, you shouldn't have any trouble installing it. I live on the corner of a lot with a sidewalk. With my lawnmower, I made a "cut" 3-4 inches deep and about 8 inches from the sidewalk. I also used a parting saw (a masonry blade) and cut a "slot" between the driveway and the sidewalk, creating a continuous loop around the property. Finally I made a cut from the edge of the loop straight across the side of my property to the AC unit. (I routed the wires to the basement using the same hole used for the AC unit). A 500 foot spool of 20 gauge copper wire (jacketed in yellow) is included. I set up a coil of wire next to the AC unit using a coil of wire (a broomstick and a little creativity would work too). In a few steps I pulled the wire through the wall of the house, made the whole loop and brought the end of the wire back to the air conditioner. Using a cordless drill I was able to twist the two wires together (right where they cross the house wall). This clears the signal on that part of the circuit, allowing my dog to safely cross the property line without receiving static correction. This is also described in detail in the instructions. The 500ft roll was enough to go through my property and do the whole loop, cross the property again and get to the basement. (My property is just over a quarter of an acre). I created a "connection point" in the basement and routed 2 wires to the other side using a piece of 16/2 speaker wire I had laying around. (Also twisted together to suppress the signal) Once everything is connected it takes a little "tweaking" to set everything where it is effective. The collar is adjustable from 1 to 5. 1 tone only. 2 - very slight static correction. I found 3 to be enough for my dog. I've also tried it on myself - I weigh 200 pounds. - You definitely feel it! The loop is also adjustable from 1 to 10. I have found that when set to 6 the collar will start beeping about 6 feet from the loop before static correction is applied. These settings work great. The kit also includes white flags that I placed in the yard (6 feet from where the noose was buried). This gives the dog a visual cue as to where the collar will start beeping, eventually creating a static correction. I was able to train my dog for 3-4 days. Now when he sees the neighbors, he just runs to the flags and lies there. After being shocked multiple times, he knows better! Today I was playing with him outside and accidentally threw his toy too far away. He didn't dare cross the line. In summary, I am very happy with this product and would highly recommend it to anyone who needs to stop their dog from running outside! I give 5 stars!
