Computer stopped working 5 days after purchase. It was very stressful for us as not only is it an expensive item but my son needed it for school and the day we came back to school after winter break the computer was dead. At first it was difficult for us to get help from Revane. The support link stopped working and only gave an error page. Eventually I found where to contact the seller and the seller responded the same day with an offer and later an offer to pick it up and fix it. I've now reached Dell. They were difficult to work with, but now a technician comes to our house to replace the motherboard. I'm very concerned as I can't imagine what could have happened to the computer to destroy the motherboard. It was unplugged overnight and working when he went to bed and not working when he woke up in the morning, so I don't think the power surge makes sense. It wasn't in a place with a lot of heat. Obviously not old. Why does the motherboard fail on a new computer? Maybe it's somehow something we did, but I can't figure out what it could be. I don't usually give low ratings. I don't like how they affect people's lives. But it's a very expensive purchase and I don't want to make a mistake. I want to say that I think the seller is good. Additional Dell research may be required prior to purchase. ****UPDATE AND FIX**** My son's computer is working now! Here's what happened: Dell sent someone to replace the motherboard. After it was replaced, we had to re-enter our Microsoft credentials to use Windows. As soon as we did that, the screen went black again and behaved exactly like it had an issue with the motherboard again. On the phone with the person who replaced the motherboard, the tech taught my son how to press F12 multiple times before the Dell logo appeared. when the computer tries to start. This opens the menu. My son decided to play around with this menu. Thinking we had another defective motherboard, we figured it couldn't hurt. He found an option labeled "SupportOS Recovery" which he selected. From there he found something (he doesn't remember exactly what was there) that reinstalls Windows. He did this and the computer started working. So if you are having an issue with this item that looks like a motherboard issue, reinstalling Windows may fix it. Dell tech support was unaware of this and neither was the repair tech who found that there were many motherboard issues across all PC brands, not just Dell. I'm wondering if this is actually an issue with the Windows installation, perhaps due to an Intel graphics application my son updated just before his computer went black for the first time. (The computer prompted him to update it.) Aside from the stress that comes with it, my son is happy with his computer. Also, the seller was very responsive and provided a phone tag for a replacement computer when Dell didn't have one. They contacted me several times while we were working on the issue. 3 stars for stress but the seller got 5 stars for going out of their way to help.
