In terms of velocity, the top speed has been reached. Sometimes I read up to 36mb, and sometimes I write up to 35mb. I use Windows 7, I'm linked via USB-2.0, and my machine doesn't have a separate third port. Even though the laptop's processor is under 7 years old, its write/read speed is barely 18 mb/s. Perhaps it was the battery life of the laptop or the quirks of running Windows on a Macbook that caused this. I simply removed it from the packaging and didn't format it in any way. I've abandoned NTFS for the time being and left the file system in FAT32. That was the 620th one, and it was returned under warranty and died mysteriously because of the protected department. I have no idea about its longevity because I just bought it. Guaranteed for three years.
