Xero shoes are one of the cheapest sandals you can find. But only at the purchase price. In terms of consumption per hour, they are among the most expensive in my opinion. I have two pairs of Z-Treks. The first pair broke catastrophically in the first few months of ownership, tearing the piece of rubber that connects the strap to the sole. I waited a few years and got sucked into another "deal" for a second pair. Took it hiking yesterday (again, after a few months of ownership and from lazy to marathon, I'm running a run that's much closer to lazy) and it broke again where the straps connect to the sole. So yes. Terrible persistence. And most importantly, what's the point of wearing shoes that actually hold together and don't fail catastrophically and offer no protection. I ended up with Xero shoes. Very disappointing.
