First let me tell you about my initial setup. I have a Yamaha 4k receiver with HDCP 2.2 and a Christie FHQ841-T TV. This is a 4k TV (only 30 fps and no HDR) with HDMI 1.4b connections. I also have a LG UBK90 4K player that cannot play 4K due to the TV. When I bought and tried out the Monoprice Blackbird, I plugged the device right in front of the TV. So LG UHD Player, Yamaha Receiver, Blackbird, TV. Unfortunately it ONLY downscales to 1080p when trying to play 4k discs. However, I was able to stream Netflix in 4k. Then I tried to take the handset out of the equation. LG UHD player for Blackbird for TV. Same result, 4k discs play at 1080p. However, Netflix streaming remains in 4k. Before deciding to return this item, I decided to buy a different brand 4k UHD player. Went to Best Buy and bought a Sony SONY UBPX700 UHD player. First test, Sony UHD on Blackbird on TV. IT WORKS OUT! It played media files in 4k format. For the next test, put the receiver back into the equation. Sony UHD to Yamaha Receiver to Blackbird to TV. IT WORKS TOO! And to my surprise it went through Dolby ATMOS! So JMMV. If this doesn't work with a particular UHD player, try another. Also, I didn't connect my Sony UHD player to the internet. I don't want to upgrade the box as it works and I mostly play 4k discs without streaming.
