Overall this thing works. When we cook with gas we will find that it touches one or two and then falls back to 0 as it should after everything is off. Of course, so does this thing, which has two ties to my biggest complaint: it registers heat as a gas. This summer this thing has been consistently at 1 on the days it went above 85. And it's not a gas leak, because in normal temperatures it reads 0, which it should be. The bottom line is, if you're looking for a cheap way to make sure you don't have a gas leak, this thing is perfect; 5 Stars. But if you want something to keep in the kitchen on warm days and not fret when it magically hits 3 (should be 2) and pierces your ears with death screams, pay a little more elsewhere.
