Review on ๐Ÿ”ฅ SEEKONE Heat Gun Hot Air: Powerful and Versatile Heating Tool for Various Applications by Brett Robinson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Tried to set himself on fire.

I have been using this product for about a year without any problems. At this point I noticed the fan getting louder. I opened it up and cleaned it up a bit, made sure I reinstalled the fan properly, etc. After about a month it was back to normal. However, this morning I turned on the device and let it warm up (about five minutes). I started to feel something strange and noticed the nozzle started turning black and the plastic around the nozzle was melting. I turned it off quickly. I did a bit of testing and found that the fan was basically dead and barely blowing any air, causing the unit itself to get hot. This is worrying for several reasons. First, it looks like there really isn't a thermostat in the unit, and if there is, it's not working properly anymore. Second, there doesn't seem to be any thermal runaway detection; This is very important for any consumer device that heats itself up. A few other issues with this unit: 1. The wiring inside is not glued or screwed, it's cut, and the solder joints were quite dirty.2. The temperature controller is mislabeled; negatively hot and positively cold.3. There is no self-cooling function, as is usual with such devices. That means if you want to use it safely, you have to turn it on, get your work done, crank the temperature dial all the way, and then set it to maximum. Even then, it's still pumping out heat, albeit much less.4. The device is not stable when it is in the up position. It has a metal rod that needs to be moved (pain) and even then it can be knocked over very easily. I bought the Wagner device as a replacement, not much bigger but it has a much sturdier body and also a better control interface. It's also much quieter and has a much safer nozzle design. I'll have to see if it really lasts longer. I don't usually mind cheap tools; if they die, they die. This unit would have been a solid three had it not tried to burn down my garage.

Pros
  • Scientific ergonomic design and wide application
Cons
  • Unfashionable
