This is the exact same original device. It works perfectly, and holding it in my hands, I confidently opened the old one and cleaned the contacts. I've since removed the batteries from the new one and put it on the shelf until the old one finally dies. (I've had to open the old one and clean it again, and it gets sluggish at times, so it's only a matter of time before I get the new one fully operational.) It was a little pricey, but definitely worth it. .
