I bought it because my hair is naturally very curly and it's very painful to grow out. I started doing pineapple hair at night and a curly bun when I was working in elementary school, which means lots of exercise! They work great with thick hair and keep it in place with very few tangles. Yes, they can catch a few knots, but a lot less than a rubber band. I was content with pulling out very little hair, even after sweaty days at the playground when my hair got tangled. You can also stretch yourself if you wrap your hair VERY tightly (which is bad for you anyway). KEEP THE BOX THEY COME IN, because you can put them back in when they stretch a little and start to curl up again. I've been using them every day for several months and only bought more because I lost a pair at work. FYI: If you straighten or have naturally straight hair, you will need to wrap it very tightly to hold it in place. In my experience, probably some of the bad reviews come from people wrapping their hair more than two times, three times at most. They are not designed for this and will not work well if tightened that much over a long period of time. Update: I've experimented a bit with getting them back into a tightly wrapped ring. Dousing them with hot water didn't work, but I dunked them in water in a microwave-safe bowl and shot them at 30-second intervals for about 2 minutes while watching. The ribbons wound back and I put them back in the boxes to cool.
