My wife and I wanted to invest in a DSLR for a trip to Peru. .-Excellent backwards compatibility with older Pentax lenses. (Currently we are happy using 2 70's Takumar lenses with this camera. Works very well with old lenses and the price of the old lenses allowed us to get a quality kit at a low price). - dial for shooting in full manual mode (aperture and shutter speed controls are intuitive) - very durable (this camera has been subjected to repeated knocks and bumps and continues to function without incident. - waterproof and dustproof (you need to buy weatherproof lenses, but you can use the Feel quality when you handle this camera Self-cleaning sensor function that really works and shows where dust is on the sensor Amazing image quality (especially when using non-genuine lenses, sensor and shutter are very good) Built-in shake reduction function (allows it you to use old lenses without any disadvantages) - LCD display (easily displaying the information you need - aperture, shutter speed, special mode, etc.) - The included 18-55mm lens is well made, not exceptionally fast, sharp, delivers a stunning bokeh, but overall it delivers an excellent image and feels good in the hand.Compared to the Nikon lens from the kit on our friend's project, it feels a million times better. It is also nice that the tube does not rotate when focusing or zooming. It also has a manual focus ring =) - Very cheap and beautiful camera to use for DSLR shooting - Uses AA batteries which last forever if you use lithium (standard AA batteries really saved us in Peru, when we were away or didn't have battery charging time warning: standard alkaline batteries run out FAST) - JPEG + RAW mode (Allows you to shoot both at the same time, making sharing or viewing images at the same time on a computer with limited resources much easier I only shoot in this mode) Of the minuses : - Noisy shutter (never bothered me, but some will) - Slow burst mode (don't bother me either) - No video function (don't bother me either) - 10MP (don't bother me either, I never enlarged our photos to that size) - Small rear LCD by today's standards. In summary: This camera feels great and gave me and my wife the opportunity to take up a new hobby that neither of us knew we would enjoy. That's simple straightness. doesn't scare me and encourages me to keep learning more about photography. We can definitely recommend this camera. I'm very impressed with Pentax and glad I bought this mid-range $200 kit. If you are interested, definitely buy it.
