Full of Bugs - Computers and Accessories

I bought this RAM because I already have the same 4GB kit on my PC. I figured it wouldn't be a problem as I've been using the identical kit for over a year. I received new RAM quickly and installed it with no problems. The bios was 8GB and I was waiting for Windows 7 to start. This happened, then it stalled and crashed. I tried changing the BIOS settings to failsafe but Windows 7 was already corrupted. I removed the new RAM, rebooted with just the original 4 gigabytes and proceeded to restore Windows. Turns out the crash unregistered all my DLLs and I had to fix that before I could do a system restore. This took about 20 hours. After getting the system back, I worked with the original RAM for several days to make sure everything was fine. I then opened a ticket with OCZ for help. The only answer was to change my MB settings. I replied that I already tried. An OCZ engineer suggested running Memtest86 to test memory. Funny, it says "individually hand tested" right on the packaging of your RAM. Probably not. So I downloaded Memtest86 to disk and tested without Win7. Old RAM error = 2 (these could be first pass errors) New RAM error = 6,144 (really checked manually?) I emailed this info to OCZ, they sent a long RMA form back, in which lists all the tires I would have to go through to get new RAM (including paying for shipping and waiting). Decided to return the Revain RAM and buy some Crucial RAM (at least they check their stuff). Revain returns are hassle-free, quick and painless. That's why I gave it a star, zero for RAM, 5 stars for Revain.

Pros
  • Pretty impressive
Cons
  • boring packaging
