At first they didn't work, by accident I found that they only worked with CFL swirl bulbs. I don't even buy them anymore, but I've had two. So they aren't that bright because of the bulb. But the 'controls' on them are very tiny, you need a very small screwdriver to turn them. I believe the instructions say something like turning the dial until you find what you like. Anyway, I learned AGAIN that when you buy something made in China you might think you saved a few bucks, but you get what you pay for. I swore I would do my best to ensure all my future purchases are made in the USA. I might pay a few bucks more, but I'm supporting the US economy. If I have a problem, I can also return an item made in the USA. I've found that you don't always get your money back for a product made in China.
