Review on Cloud Nine C989 Ergonomic Mechanical Keyboard for PC - Cherry MX Blue Switches - RGB Backlit LED with USB - Split Ergo Key Board with Macro by Warren Hess

Cherry Brown switches surrounded by mediocrity

Why is it so hard to find a decent RGB backlit mechanical ergonomic keyboard? I wanted to love this keyboard. I really did. But that won't happen. Good- Cherry brown switches are great, perfect balance between actuation and sound.- Bright and even RGB lighting throughout the keyboard- Reasonable RGB configuration options- Rubber feet on the bottom prevent the keyboard from slipping off accidentally, and the keyboard is quite heavy so it still doesn't move. expensive. The whole point of the USB-C connector is that it can be inserted in any orientation. It's possible that the cable connecting the two halves of the keyboard isn't actually USB-C, but it looks like it. Not only must both ends of the cable be inserted into the keyboard in a specific orientation, but each end of the cable must be inserted into the correct side of the keyboard. And there are no markings on the cable or keyboard to indicate correct orientation. The instructions even say "if the light doesn't come on, try again" with the cord. It looks like laziness on the part of the manufacturer. I got the orientation wrong more than once. The keyboard is massive. I mean it's very, very big. When the two halves are connected, it's at least 3 inches longer than my Microsoft Ergo keyboard, mainly because of the macro keys. Moving to the right to use the mouse is like an epic journey. This thing monopolizes your desktop. The location of the "smart wheel" is impractical. I'd rather place it somewhere in the top right corner of the keyboard. The palm rest is made of hard, cheap plastic and will become uncomfortable over time. When I spend that much on a keyboard, I expect a padded palm rest. Ergonomically, something is wrong with the layout. In order for my hands to be in a natural position, I have to align the sections of the keyboard in a pronounced "V" shape, which adds to the size of this keyboard. The key string is full height. I almost never use the function keys, so I'd prefer the opposite. The key labels in the row of numbers are visually confusing. Numbers and symbols are represented as characters of the same size and stand side by side. I'm not a blind typist, so if I have to look for a key in a row of numbers, I'll have a hard time finding it. Ugliness - Can't tell if that's typical or if I just got a broken block, but the left (smaller) portion of the keyboard isn't perfectly flat at the bottom. It's tilted slightly diagonally, so when I put my hand on the palm rest, the whole device wobbles back and forth. With all the other shortcomings of this keyboard, there's no room for flaws in workmanship or build quality, so this beast is back. The search for the perfect mechanical ergonomic RGB keyboard continues.
