I got these to free up desk space in my home office by moving things I need off my desk onto shelves and away from me. And that's why they did their job. But. The tree dried up and not a single solid board. Obviously it was glued together from three or so 1X2's and then planed. This made it thinner than a 1X2 would have been (about 1/8 inch compared to a standard 1X2). It was also dried for too long. Whatever color they used, they did NOT seal the wood, so they were both slightly warped, twisted lengthwise towards the center, which is the result of planing the wood and storing it in a dry environment. One regiment was far worse than the other. Of course, when screwing on the strut, one of them broke in the middle almost along the entire length. drilled holes for the screws and got on with his day. Their installation went well and they seem to get the job done without falling off the walls. Installation was included, cheap but usable. I would recommend using a drill bit or awl much smaller than the full diameter of the anchor to tap the drywall and then carefully using a rubber mallet to firmly push the anchor in before installing. Using a level during the installation process would also be helpful. The metal braces were slightly bent and needed some adjustment to fit properly. Due to the fragility of wood I have NOT fitted towel rails and do not recommend them. I would NOT recommend putting more than a pound or two on each. That's because the height of the screws in the standoff that hold it to the wall is about the height of a hammer, so too much weight on the shelves or on the outside edge of the shelves away from the wall will easily push them out of the can wall. Wall. That is why a very tight fit of the anchor is so important. For a more secure hold with more weight, a spreader wall anchor (similar to The Hillman Group's 41304 cavity wall anchor) would be much better and I'll probably replace it. which came in the future with shelves with something similar. It doesn't pull out of the drywall nearly as easily as it does with dowels. I've installed a lot of shelves in my time, so I know what to look out for and how to deal with it. Done right I think these shelves will suit most people but I wouldn't recommend them for heavy use. For what I wanted they did the job hence the three star 'average' rating. But it took some tweaking to get it working without damaging at least one of the shelves, and I didn't feel like they were strong enough to hold towels underneath. At most, keep a few rolls of toilet paper or a few small washcloths or towels and heavy objects close to the wall. If it was a solid piece of wood rather than a three piece piece and thicker less dry wood to avoid splitting I would rate it higher. It would be five stars if the wood were of better quality and the wall anchors were stronger. But for the price paid I am not dissatisfied.
