I was of course very skeptical about buying this product. I also did a lot of research on competitor products before buying this one. If you're a buyer like me, here's my full story from my own research and experience: 1. This thing really works. I've seen a roach or two in my garage in a relatively new (2006) house, but have been told we have sewer roaches in the area. Those who enter seem to slow down and die from the treatment in the house, but for some reason they enter anyway and I find them half dead. I have this set to blue settings and have never seen another. It's only been a week, but I check three times a day or more. EDIT: Changed to a 4 star rating because it's not a silver bullet. It's been about a month since I plugged it into the blue settings. We had a heat wave today (95 in Cali) and I think some thirsty roaches got desperate and came in. I found two cockroaches. Both were nearly dead, turned upside down and not responding in any way to being picked up and flaring up. Apparently my house has some sort of perimeter treatment that works. I'm not sure if this thing is a surefire win, but I haven't seen a single cockroach other than today. I checked the red setting but I could hear it from across the room and it was very annoying so I had to turn it off. It seems like it would be very effective if you had an emergency and didn't need to be in the house while it's set to red. I will continue to monitor and update this review if I see anything different.2. Competitors' products seemed like cheap imitations that offer really dumb features to try to impress you. Negative ion air particles and night lights will not prevent your insect or rodent problem, they are just tricks. It has three settings that actively fend off the infestation, and that's all it does. I don't need the red setting yet but if you watch a video of this product you will hear that it is very loud and annoying. I've never heard of blue, but I have it in my garage.3. There are other reviews on this product stating that it became a home for their roaches and roaches came right there etc. I believe these are fake reviews posted by competitors. Either that or these people have an invasion so strong it can't be cured. I doubt most people reading this are in such a dire situation and if you are please take my advice and just do your best to move forward for your own health and safety. Hope this helps some people. Have a great day and stay healthy ♥ Edit: I've had it for about 6 months or more. This is not a panacea for cockroaches or pests. Sometimes stray cockroaches come into the house and I spray them. The spider living above doesn't seem to mind. I also tried using the blue setting above, which seems to be for rodents because it makes an unbearable audible noise. This can be very useful in an emergency, so it's a handy tool. Good thing it's not expensive.
