This product is excellent for top or bottom installation. Sturdy thick metal and solid construction. I definitely recommend it. However, a note and a warning for the bumper of your van or trailer. When I set up my bike rack and went camping, the weight of the bikes pressed down on the bumper, just enough to grab the black water pipe and connectors in the bumper. I couldn't get it when I needed it most. This was due to the design of the bumper. Make sure yours can take the weight. Otherwise a great product and definitely recommended.
