Pretty bad experience so far.

So far my experience has been just that - 1 star. The device drivers for the device do not start. All I see in Windows reports is "the device cannot start". The Epiphan software just says no devices were found. BTW the device has its own drivers and the only reason to have native drivers for a standard device is when the hardware/software design of the device was too lazy to follow the standard protocols. Other devices (e.g. Magewell) do not require special drivers. The Linux drivers provided by Epiphan are even worse: 1) First, they are proprietary, so they will mess up your kernel. 2) Second, some of the downloads are just incomplete, the latest FC23 driver doesn't have an "extra" directory which makefile depends on. on3) There is no way to include drivers in DKMS, so you have to rebuild them (or take care of DKMS yourself) with every kernel update 4) Latest FC22 drivers don't work with either latest FC22 kernel (missing symbols) still on Windows, it's probably just DOA. This is normal, there can always be hardware issues, but what really struck me is that it's not possible to create a support ticket online. Sure I can call, but it's 8pm in California right now (of course they're closed) and I don't want to leave them a message to call me back when I'm most likely busy and can't access my device, in a noisy environment etc. This is a far cry from the support and expectations I would have had for a $700 device back in 2016.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Some little things
