No longer compatible with Mac

The fact that this device is not compatible with any of the latest OSX versions makes it useless to me after spending $700.

Pros
  • Nice to use
Cons
  • Not as thick as other models

DVI2USB connected easily to my MacBookPro and Sony VG30

DVI2USB connected easily to my MacBookPro and Sony VG30. I had to open the software first before I could get the Skype video, but this is the only adapter that works for this purpose.

Works best in video converters

I'm using this on Linux (Ubuntu 12.10) for some video analysis software I've put together and it works great. It presents itself as either a V4L (Video for Linux) or a DirectShow device on Windows (which I haven't tested). After a quick driver installation I got it working using SimpleCV for my analysis. Highly recommend if you want something that just works. I haven't tried the audio capture yet, but it probably does the same with the HDMI input, so I can't wait to try it out.

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • So far so good

Amazing technology

I bought a DVI2USB 3.0 to record video conferences from our Polycom HDX system. It works so well that Polycom should include it with every system it sells. After we figured out how to switch the TV signal from the VC device from component to DVI (this is listed at the end of the VC admin guide), the capture device worked perfectly. Remember that you need to record audio separately. We are using USB 3 and the quality of the recorded output is excellent. Remember that the quality of the VC signal

Pros
  • High test scores for support and durability
Cons
  • Can't remember

Spending the same amount on a GrassValley HDMI to 1394 converter for a 720p signal that doesn't get through at all on a 4 pin 1394 and might get through on a 6 pin 1394 but though it didn't work with editing programs it didn't work at all in Skype or ooVoo as a webcam, I came across this DVI2USB3 converter from Epiphan to HDMI-USB3. With USB 3.0, he easily transmitted the 720p HD signal to the car. It took a bit of debugging with Epiphan's absolutely excellent technical service to get the…

Pretty bad experience so far.

So far my experience has been just that - 1 star. The device drivers for the device do not start. All I see in Windows reports is "the device cannot start". The Epiphan software just says no devices were found. BTW the device has its own drivers and the only reason to have native drivers for a standard device is when the hardware/software design of the device was too lazy to follow the standard protocols. Other devices (e.g. Magewell) do not require special drivers. The Linux drivers provided…

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Some little things

We have purchased approximately 400 grippers from Epiphan. Our last order for DVI2USB 3.0 was 100 units, upgrades for over 200 pads that will be upgraded to digital and will replace the older VGA2USB LR models. We chose this product over another product called Magewell because: - The build quality is much better. - Great software - Excellent web presence and customer support (compared to the defunct Magewell). The packaging of the product is excellent and reliable. Superb build quality in an…
