I wonder how we lived without them! I've kept butter on the counter at room temperature for years because I can't try to spread tough bits of butter on my toast. But in truth, it often got too soft and ended up looking pretty unsightly. In this small oil boat, the water below seems to keep the oil just a few degrees cooler. Not much, but just enough to keep it spreadable and not smudge. Great invention. It is designed for a standard pack of oil. (As a side note, there are many "oil bells" that require you to pack the oil into the lid of the container. I don't see at all how that could be.) This version uses the same principle of being near water to keep the oil cooler but without the need for manipulation.)
