Review on Hopkins 90118 2X4Basics ShelfLinks Storage by Ryan Foles

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Best used as a base.

If you want to build shelves that look very strong but cannot support a lot of weight then this is the product you really need! If you want to build a shelving system that can hold hundreds of pounds (tools, bags of cement, salt, oil, etc.) use these as a guide to square the shelves, but screw 2x4 nails or screws on columns together and forget you to use them for any kind of support! The included screws have flat Philips heads that screw terribly into the wood through pre-drilled holes in the brackets. If you make the mistake of removing the screw, there's a good chance the clip will fall apart around the screw, leaving a hole about an inch in diameter in the clip. Another problem is that the plastic used for these braces is very temperature sensitive. Bring it below about 20 degrees Fahrenheit and it becomes brittle like glass. I bought enough of these brackets to build a fairly large shelf but I feel I wasted my money. They don't deliver. I think it would be better if I just designed and built the shelves from the same 2x4s but using a piece of 2x4 as a bracket and a lag screwing everything together.
