Review on Denon AVR-X4700H 8K Ultra HD 9.2 Channel AV Receiver (2020 Model) – IMAX Enhanced, Gaming Ready, Music Streaming, Alexa + HEOS by Sharon Smith

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Many HDMI input options. Good sound.

AVR - The X4700H is a great receiver with great sound and lots of HDMI input options. The main reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I couldn't get my Sony Blu-ray player (older model) to display anything other than the splash screen (i.e. no video output including system device menu after splash screen). when connected to one of the HDMI inputs on the rear panel. Curiously, however, the Sony worked flawlessly when plugged into the AUX HDMI input on the front. I spent an hour on the phone with a very nice tech from Denon support who couldn't help me with the problem although he did help me with the subwoofer configuration issue [it turned out that the subwoofer was burned out] . Strangely, when I connected a Samsung 3D Blu-ray player to the HDMI Blu-ray input on the back of the X4700, it worked perfectly. When I connected a Sony Blu-ray player to the HDMI Blu-ray input on the back of the Denon AVR-S960H, it worked perfectly. I'm only telling this story to warn you that strange compatibility issues may arise. It's also possible that the X4700 is defective, but since everything is working fine now (subwoofer amp replaced, but had to add a subwoofer isolation transformer/ground loop noise canceller to remove low frequency hum caused by Tivo Bolt [a common Problem with video sources]), sending the X4700 back to a replacement device is not possible.
