Review on Z Ink Remanufactured Replacement 702 by Antoine Dean

Not working on my printer

Over the last few years I've been able to use remanufactured cartridges for Brother and Canon printers (less so for HP). However, my new Epson printer refused to recognize my black 702XL cartridge, even though I followed the manufacturer's (recovery) instructions of wiping the chip with the alcohol swab that came with it and cleaning it 2-3 times (more like 8-10 times for me , before I gave up) again. . I figured it was probably because Epson offered to update the firmware after I unboxed the printer and plugged it in. Looking back, I shouldn't have agreed. It's too difficult to restore the firmware so I gave up and sent the cartridges back. I hope that in the future EZ Ink and other remanufacturers will find a way to create a chip that replaces this firmware as federal courts have ruled that printer manufacturers cannot block the use of third party ink cartridges. Epson cartridges aren't as outrageously expensive as HP or Lexmark products, but they still cost almost double what remanufacturers charge. I can afford it, but knowing that there is a cheaper alternative gives me some peace of mind.

Pros
  • Latest smart chip ensures compatibility with latest updated firmware
Cons
  • Interval
