Review on LG 32UL750-W 32-Inch 4K Monitor Display - Silver, 3840x2160P, High Dynamic Range, Anti-Glare Screen by Melvin Bibbs

When it works, it's great, but the screen blanking issue is real

First great things: I use this monitor mainly for work and a bit for gaming. If you program all day, the HDR effect is great. Light text on a dark background is very clear and reduces eye strain, especially when working in a dark room. Colors needed a little tweaking, but overall everything from video to games to text looks incredible. Now we come to the main problem: This monitor suffers from "screen blanking" from time to time. Based on other reviews it's not clear what this means so let me get that straight. When using the monitor, the screen sometimes goes black (black, nothing is displayed). This is *not* the same as simply turning the screen off, as you can still open the monitor settings menu, so the login from your PC/laptop/device is no longer handled. When this happens, the blank screen will typically flash until the content on the screen changes (e.g. switching to a different window or jumping to a different time in a YouTube video). Turning off the monitor, waiting 15-30 seconds, and turning it back on often resolves the blanking issue. Sometimes you have to repeat this process a couple of times. Once the monitor turns on and *stops flickering*, it usually continues to run without flickering (at least until it goes to sleep or turns off again). Taken together, these "symptoms" lead me to believe that the problem is with the video input processor in the monitor. When the monitor boots up, it *sometimes* boots into this broken, crash-prone state. In this state, a combination of input video data (e.g. specific pixels at specific locations on the screen) causes the processor to crash, causing the screen to momentarily go blank during reboots. If the input on the screen didn't change when it restarted, it may fail again, resulting in a loop of turning the screen on and off. I think turning the monitor on and off for 15-30 seconds is equivalent to a "hard reset", not what the monitor hardware does when it performs "soft resets" when the video input processor fails. So let's summarize. This problem is extremely annoying but also solvable. I've encountered the same issues with other 4K monitors from LG, although that doesn't appear to be the case with their latest 4K TVs, likely due to some long overdue hardware upgrades. If you are thinking about buying this monitor. As it is I can't recommend it. Either choose one of the other options or wait for the LG 2021/2022 releases and check the reviews to see if this problem persists. If you already have this monitor, I don't think replacing it with the same model isn't going to fix anything for you, but hopefully the "Turn off, wait, turn on" feature will help you deal with this ridiculous error.
