2 out of 4 screws broke when tightened and I didn't really try. Had to dig up a similar bolt in the basement, move the bracket and reinstall it (because the hole I was using was plugged with a broken bolt). Also, I followed the instructions for how far apart the brackets should be based on the size of the kayak, but those instructions were wrong. When installing according to the instructions, the straps slipped off the ends of the kayak and I was unable to lift it. If the straps were rubberized or had hooks that would solve the problem allowing you to add padding that will hook and fit as recommended. For my second frame I spaced the struts 4 feet apart for a 10.5 foot kayak and it worked much better.
