Replacement of toner chips requires special care

After looking for alternatives to expensive HP toners for my M479fdw MFP, I settled on them - they demonstrated a chip replacement process that seemed relatively easy. So I bought them and they arrived with no problems. You get toner and color photo instructions and a cutter (to remove the chip carriers on the old one) and tweezers to remove the tiny, tiny chip. Everything was fine, except that the first time I pumped the toner, on the first try, while I was taking out a tiny, tiny chip with tweezers, it fell out and disappeared. I spent the next literal hour looking for him. I thought it might have gotten into an old toner cartridge so I disassembled it (toner everywhere). nope Then I searched all other places. When someone else came and started to help me, we finally found that he had jumped quite a distance and was lying on the ground with a black back. Did I mention he's tiny? It's less than ยผ inch square. Yes. Without this chip the cartridge is unusable. to rotate 180ยฐ. But after that the printer recognized it and everything was fine. The next two cartridges went smoothly. On the last cartridge, HP seemed to flinch and poured some kind of epoxy or something into the area of the chip that literally had to be completely cut out from all sides. Then I had to cut off the excess plastic very carefully (otherwise it wouldn't fit in the space for the new cartridge). That took quite a while for the tiny, tiny chip that fits. But then the printer recognized it and I started printing again. However, I won't have to do this again. When I buy new replacement toner cartridges from the same company (yes, I definitely will) I can simply swap the chips into their new, easy-to-remove holder and pop them into the new cartridges. No mess, no fuss, no hassles and a ton of dollars saved. All of the "easy installation" problems were HP's side of the equation.
