This type of lightbar has been on the market for a number of years. They could certainly get the job done during this time with a little extra effort on your part, but they suffered in several key areas. First, the quality of the paint. A lot of companies tend to overdrive the LEDs in their panels and what can happen is that you get a green or purple shift after the lights have been on for a period of time. So you would go from a panel with a CRI of 95 to around a 90 or 80 CRI after an hour of use. The light output was also not very high. If you had mobile app control, it was Wi-Fi based, which was just awful. Finally, the build quality was really lacking. Coming in 2021 with the latest version of GVM Lightbars, I'm happy to report that GVM has pretty much solved all these problems. First I used these lights for several hours and generally saw a color change. In fact, these panels have ultra-precise color reproduction at 97 CRI. Just a few years ago it would have been too expensive to fit color-accurate LED chips/lamps of this type into a panel of this price range. It seems their prices have come down a lot and now you have light panels at a "budget" price with incredibly high color fidelity. Next comes the light output. Those suckers put out some serious light: each 60W panel (like the Godox SL60) puts out 11,200 lux at 0.5 metres. So if you use all 3 panels in this set on some sort of triple socket as shown in the photos you will get 180w of power. Keep in mind that this will also be a much larger light source than something like the Godox SL150. Just add some diffuse and you have a very bright, big light source for really soft light. In these latest panel releases, GVM has abandoned WIFI in favor of Bluetooth and I am very happy. First, the GVM II application connects to the panels almost instantly. Also, you don't have to sacrifice the internet connection on your phone/tablet when using the mobile app controls. The application is very simple and easy to use. If you don't want to use the app, you can always use the master/slave function built into these lights. Simply set one panel as the master and the others as slaves, and any changes you make to the master panel will reflect in the other two almost immediately. This is a feature I use frequently. The last is the build quality. The panels are basically a metal structure that acts as a heat sink and helps the panels dissipate heat, eliminating the need for fans, making these panels silent. Any videographer will immediately recognize the great benefit of silent lighting. Now the barn doors are still made of plastic, which I don't like. That being said, I rarely use barn doors on my light panels so I usually remove them anyway. I would like to make a request to GVM. Please give us the remote control! Even if it is a single purchase. The mobile app control and master/slave functionality are great, but nothing beats a physical remote in my hand. I love these panels and have quite a few of them. This is a fantastic way to get incredible light output as well as excellent color accuracy without spending a lot of money. I would recommend these panels to both professionals and amateurs without a problem.
